Time Management Tips
- Perform you most difficult work at your best
time of day.
Some of us are morning people while others are evening people. Whenever
possible, tackle your most difficult work each day when you are at your
very best.
- Restrict your phone calls to once or twice a day
.
Your telephone can rob you of your productivity when it is ringing
all day. When possible, let your voicemail take the message. Listen
to all your messages in one session, prepare responses, and make phone
calls during this time. Keep a phone call log. This will help you keep
track of and return all your calls while providing a valuable record.
The same advice applies to email.
- Know how much time a task really takes and how much
time you actually have. Starting with an 8-hour workday
or a full 24-hour day, subtract time for all the things
you must do (sleep, eat, drive to and from work, prepare
for work, take breaks, etc.) to determine how much time is left to work
on projects. Now, determine realistically how much time your project will
take. Be sure to add some extra, just-in-case time. Now, armed with this
information, project how long it will take you to complete a project. With
realistic information you are much more likely to stay on track.
